Review: Underoath – Erase Me

What’s up people’s,

So, the first review I’ve decided to throw up on here’s gonna be for a band I’ve been listening to for years now – Underoath.

Warning!! The following page might contain link(s), banners, widgets etc that may use cookies or lead you to another site. As always, be aware.

Alright so, where to start. If you lad’s and ladies have never heard of Underoath they are a Christian?/Not Christian?/Metal/Screamo/Electronic Band. Confused yet? Excellent! We are on the right track.

I’m not even going to try and explain anything about the band, their members, or past or future. Honestly I don’t follow bands, other than their music. If they are making good music, I’m there. Besides that, like I said, I’m not interested.

But anyways, some quick personal insight. I have been listening to Underoath since their big rise from They’re Only Chasing Safety.

Well, over the years they have kept with it, and I have kept up with their albums at least. Which have been, in my opinion, only getting better. Personally I liked Define the Great Line, Lost in the Sound of Separation and Disambiguation so much more than their earlier stuff, but dat’s jus me doe.

Anways, onto Erase Me, which I recently snagged here on Amazon for stupid cheap. Seriously, I got it for like 7 bucks after shipping. And it is definitely worth that and more.

So, onto the review.

First of all, the package arrived in good condition. A little bit of spidering in the CD case but not broken through so that was good. Now the album itself.
The whole Erase Me album is great imo. This cd feels like a departure from Decline., Lost in. and Disambig. but is a good one in my opinion; the CD wasn’t the same old. It’s a hard line to walk between growing and being too different. Only other option is their music stays the same and becomes repetitive, and then everyone hates them for being the same, so, might as well experiment with some stuff. The only “disappointment” (big air quotes on that) was that Hold Your Breath didn’t end up being as heavy or hard as I envisioned it was going to be. The song subverted my expectations, not in a negative way, but just surprised me. Would love to hear another version of this song where the chorus is harder. No Frame is REALLY good and feels like 2 different songs to me. Sink With You probably sums up the feeling of the whole album with the line “I’d rather die than sink with you.”
At the end of the album I found myself listening to the last 4 songs (Hold Your Breath – I Gave Up) on repeat for awhile, especially I Gave Up. I Gave Up is fantastic. Overall if you like these guys, especially their later albums, I would think you will likely be a fan of this album as well.

Here is a link to the review on Amazon itself. Incase you wanted to see it on there for some reason.

So ya folks, I think the album is pretty damn fantastic and since it comes from a band that I thought was done and over with, I will definitely take it.

For a quick bonus, check out their video for Sunburnt, which, when I thought they were going to be no more, felt like any amazing “Going Away Song”.

As always peoples, hope your all doing awesome out there.

I know a lot of people are going to be going through some harder than normal stuff at the moment, with everything that’s going on worldwide and so I’d just like to say that now, more than ever is the time to rise to the occasion and be the example to your neighbours, loved ones, your children, that you know you should be. Lead by example ladies and gents. We can all come out of this better on the other side. I really believe that.

Take care everyone,

JAC
